Agriculture sector suffering major loss due to effluent spill in Rio Cobre

President of the Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS) Lenworth Fulton has described the Rio Cobre fish kill as a major disaster for the agriculture sector.

 

The fish kill which resulted from an effluent spill from Windalco last week has affected air and water quality and livelihoods.

 

Speaking with IRIE FM news, Mr. Fulton said while he cannot say how much money has been lost by farmers due to the spill, the damage is significant.

He said the Government has promised to assist the farmers.

Mr. Fulton noted that an assessment of the damage is being done.
