Protests intensify for removal of Dr. Christopher Tufton as Health Minister

Supporters of the People’s National Party (PNP) gathered at two hospitals in the western end of the island today, intensifying their demand for the resignation of Health and Wellness Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton over the deaths of 14 babies at the Victoria Jubilee Hospital.

 

The placard bearing supporters staged demonstrations outside of the Savanna-la-mar public hospital in Westmoreland and the Noel Holmes hospital in Lucea, Hanover.

 

Speaking at the demonstration in savanna-la-mar, vice chairman of the PNP’s region 6, Wayne Vacciana said the protest is a show of support for the impacted mothers.

 

He called for Dr. Tufton to step aside.

 

 

His call was echoed by councilor/caretaker for the Savanna-la-mar division, Julian Chang, who called for answers from the government.

 

 

Meantime, as the protests calling for Dr. Tufton’s resignation continued, Information Minister Robert Morgan said the government is satisfied with the explanation given by the Health Minister, about the handling of the bacterial outbreak at the Victoria Jubilee Hospital.
