Opposition concerned that gov’t is not doing enough to address the working conditions of security guards

The Opposition People’s National Party is expressing concern that the government is not doing enough to address the working conditions of security officers.

Opposition Spokesperson on Labour and Social Security, Dr. Angela Brown-Burke made the statement, yesterday.

She said while the opposition welcomes the recent decision of the government to observe security guards as employees and not contract workers, by April, in keeping with the Supreme Court’s ruling last September, she is disappointed that it will take the Finance Ministry seven months to make the change in status.

She said the government has not done enough to ensure that the court ruling is applicable to all security guards and other workers in similar circumstances.
