With the demand for Jamaican teachers rising in the United States and elsewhere, president of the Jamaica Teachers Association Leighton Johnson, says the country should take the opportunity to train teachers for other jurisdictions.

Mr. Johnson notes that Jamaican teachers are highly sought after by the rest of the world.

He says the government should enter bilateral agreements to facilitate the training of more educators.

Mr. Johnson notes that with 10 teachers colleges, Jamaica has the capacity for expanded teacher training.

He says government should also implement a campaign to make teaching more attractive.

He adds that government could also move to increase the number of teachers from overseas who are trained in Jamaica.
