A recommendation is being made for the mandatory participation of children, especially boys in uniformed groups, such as the scout movement, as this will help rescue Jamaica from crime and violence.

The suggestion from businessman Mark Kerr – Jarrett comes as he highlights what he calls savagery, and selfishness in the society.

Mr Kerr- Jarrett noted that uniformed groups provide many benefits to children, to include learning discipline.

He expressed concern that in schools which still use the shift system, it is difficult for some students to participate in extra curricular activities, such as the uniformed groups.

This he said, leaves some children with too much idle time, resulting in them being pulled into unfavourable activities.
