JTA says it cannot guarantee normalcy tomorrow, as salary issues persist

The Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) has indicated that it cannot guarantee normality in the public school system, come tomorrow (March 29).

This, as many teachers have not yet received their March salaries and retroactive payments, due to anomalies.

Some teachers received their salaries yesterday, but over 1,400 of them, who have been anticipating their salaries under the restructured compensation system, will have to wait until possibly Friday, to get their wages.

Earlier today the Education Ministry stated that its working with the relevant stakeholders to have the issues rectified, and the teachers paid, however, the JTA said the situation has resulted in frustration among its members.

It noted that the Government should make provisions to offset interest rates to be accrued on teachers’ loans and other credit facilities.

The JTA also expressed concern about the threat of re-possession of items and the impact of the current situation on members’ credit ratings.
