14-year-old burn victim completes first surgery at hospital in Atlanta, Georgia in the United States

Ackalia Dunkley the 14-year-old burn victim has completed her first surgery at a hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, in the United States.

The girl sustained third-degree burns after a gas stove exploded at her home in St. Elizabeth.

Her trip to the US was made possible, through the efforts of the Sanmerna Foundation which has helped other burn victims in the past, as well as other donors.

Providing an update to IRIE FM news, Sanmerna’s Project Manager, Stephen Josephs said Ackalia’s first surgery went well.

He noted, however, that she has more surgeries to do before fully recovering.

Mr Josephs appealed to the public to continue to send emotional and financial support to the family as they all strive to get Ackalia better.
