AIC chairman says no final decision made regarding divestment of AMC complex

Amidst concerns surrounding the divestment of the Agricultural Marketing Corporation (AMC) complex, chairman of the Agro-Investment Corporation Ian Murray, has sought to clarify that a final decision has not been made regarding the property.

In a release, Murray explains that through a cabinet decision earlier this year, the privatization of the AMC complex via the stock exchange or any other appropriate modality, was approved.

He says to facilitate this process, an enterprise team was established to conduct the necessary due diligence and identify the most suitable modality for privatization, which could include a Public Private Partnership.

Mr Murray stresses that no final decision has been made at this time.

He says the specific objectives of the project are focused on the development and expansion of the agricultural sector, providing business opportunities for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises within the sector and the operation of a logistics and distribution hub that facilitates the marketing of agricultural produce.

Mr. Murray adds that the Agro-Investment Corporation remains steadfast in its dedication to supporting Jamaica’s Agricultural Sector.
