9 arrested, six firearms seized across island at the weekend

At least six firearms were seized by the police across Jamaica, at the weekend.

Nine people were arrested in relation to the seizures.

In the latest incident on Sunday, the Portland police seized a 12 Gauge shotgun with seven 12 Gauge cartridges, in Halls Avenue, Port Antonio.

Meanwhile, on Saturday firearms were seized in St. Ann, Kingston and Clarendon .

In St. Ann, police seized a Taurus pistol, a magazine and two rounds of ammunition in Bucksfield, Ocho Rios. Three persons were arrested.

In Kingston West, 21-year-old Marko Frazer, a catering assistant was arrested for possession of prohibited weapon and unauthorized possession of ammunition, after lawmen responded to a dispute, involving him and his child’s mother.

During the operation, Frazer’s home was searched and a Taurus 9mm pistol with a magazine containing ten rounds of ammunition was found.

Over in Clarendon, police seized a firearm in Canaan Heights.

The Taurus 9mm pistol with a magazine containing fourteen rounds of ammunition was found on the ground at a party.

Also on Saturday, at about 11:55 a.m., police seized a handgun and several rounds of ammunition on Sunlight Street.

And on Friday night, about 11:55 p.m. the St Elizabeth police seized a Smith and Wesson revolver, along with six rounds of ammunition along the New Holland main road.

Five people were taken into custody.
