Counselling sessions continue today for nurses at May Pen Hospital, following Sunday’s attack on one of their colleagues

Counselling sessions continue today for members of the nursing team at the May Pen Hospital in Clarendon.

This, following yesterday’s protest by upset nurses to call attention to security concerns, after one of their colleagues was hit repeatedly with a stone by a man said to be mentally challenged.

The physical assault and protest prompted a meeting with the hospital’s management team, the nursing group and other stakeholders to discuss the tightening of security measures.

Speaking with IRIE FM news this morning, Regional Director of the Southern Regional Health Authority, Michael Bent noted that normal operations have resumed at the facility.

He also noted that while immediate measures have been implemented to ensure the safety of staff, long-term strategies are being arranged.

Yesterday, Chairman of the Authority, Wayne Chen told IRIE FM news that immediate measures include the police providing increased patrols at the hospital and that staff on night shift will be accompanied by security officers when leaving work.
