Education Minister says Gov’t not short on funds for repairs and maintenance of schools

The Government is not short on funds; the hold up is with implementation and processing.

That statement came on Wednesday (August 23) from Education Minister Fayval Williams, as she outlined what is being done by the Ministry to address concerns relating to public school infrastructure.

She was addressing educators at the Jamaica Teachers’ Association Conference in Negril, Westmoreland.

Mrs Williams noted that several schools are in need of critical repairs and as part of the transformation efforts, these issues are being fixed so that teachers and students can have a more comfortable environment.

She said over four hundred million dollars has been allocated for repairs and maintenance of schools.

The Minister said getting repair and maintenance work done takes too long.

Mrs Williams noted that in a bid to be more proactive, a maintenance database with information on the state of school infrastructure will be used.
