Jamaica has to stamp out bullying in schools; Steer Town Academy incident not linked to shoes – Fayval

Education Minister Fayval Williams says Jamaica has to begin to take steps to stamp out bullying across the nation’s schools.

This, following an incident on Monday where a female student of the Steer Town Academy in St Ann was allegedly beaten unconscious by a schoolmate.

Mrs. Williams visited the student in hospital yesterday. She also met with administrators and other stakeholders at the girl’s school.

Speaking with reporters following the visits, Mrs. Williams said the situation did not happen at the school, and was not caused by the student stepping on another girl’s shoes, as was indicated by the police in earlier reports.

She said the student suffered hits to the head and was being observed at the hospital.
