The Education Ministry says it will be strengthening its partnership with the Ministry of Justice to combat violence in schools, as the new academic year progresses.

Portfolio Minister, Fayval Williams says this is one of several initiatives being carried out to ensure that schools remain a safe environment for learning.

There has been an increase in school violence since the resumption of full face-to-face classes following the COVID-19 pandemic.

In at least one incident, a student was killed.

The situation prompted collaboration between the Government, the Constabulary and several stakeholders.

Mrs Williams said the Education and Justice Ministries will be rolling out more restorative justice sessions to help reduce violent behaviour in schools.

This initiative will be supported by the improvement of schools’ security, among other things.
