More effort to be placed on reading programmes as they positively impact students’ behaviour -Fayval
Education Minister, Fayval Williams says more effort must be placed on reading programmes, as they have been found to impact students’ behaviours positively.
Mrs Williams pointed to the literacy programme implemented at the Denham Town High School in Kingston, which according to feedback, has done more than improving the reading capabilities of students.
The Remedial Intervention for Students’ Excellence (R.I.S.E) initiative was introduced in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic and is overseen by Mrs Yvette Richards Thompson.
Minister Williams, who was speaking at the school on Friday, noted that the positive feedback about the programme has highlighted the need for greater focus to be placed on literacy programmes across schools.
