Olympic sprint relay gold medalist Tori Bowie is dead

The global athletics fraternity has been plunged into collective mourning following the sudden olympic sprint relay gold medalist United States athlete Tori Bowie .   

Her representatives, icon management, confirmed her tragic death in a statement on social media this morning and tributes have been pouring in from the world of athletics.

A cause of death has not been released after Bowie was found dead at her home in Florida. 

She was a member of the US relay team which won gold in the 4x100m at the Rio 2016 Olympic games, also winning silver in the 100metres and bronze in the 200 metres in Brazil. 

The 32 year old Bowie also won two gold medals at the 2017 World Athletic Championships held in London, again triumphing in the relay as well as winning individual 100 metres gold.

World Athletics said it was “deeply saddened” by her death in an instagram post whilst former on-track rival Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce said quote – “my heart breaks for the family of Tori Bowie. a great competitor and source of light. your energy and smile will always be with me. rest in peace “- (end of quote)
