PNP says government’s decision to impose gag-order barring comments on IC’s illicit enrichment investigation is an abuse of power

The People’s National Party (PNP) says government’s decision to impose a gag-order barring lawmakers from commenting on matters related to the integrity commission (IC), and the names of six parliamentarians under investigation for illicit enrichment, is an abuse of power, at the highest level.

In a release today, PNP President Mark Golding said this ‘policy’ is political manoeuvring, to shield parliamentarians from being held accountable for their actions and potential wrongdoings.

Mr. Golding said the very essence of democratic governance hinges on transparency, accountability, and the duty of elected officials, to provide explanations to the people they serve.

He said this new gag order ‘policy’ contradicts these fundamental principles.
