Several activities take place islandwide as Jamaicans observe National Day of Mourning

A number of activities are taking place islandwide, as Jamaicans observe the National Day of Mourning.

Earlier this week, Governor General Sir Patrick Allen declared today (June 23), as a national day of mourning for the country’s youngest crime victims, the latest of whom is 8-year-old Danielle Rowe.
Danielle was abducted from school in St. Catherine and later murdered.

Among activities being held in observance of the day, are tribute sessions organized by the Child Protection and Family Services Agency.

Speaking at a ceremony at the DeCarteret College in Manchester this morning (June 23) Custos of the parish Garfield Green said citizens must do everything possible to protect children. He said the pain endured by the loved ones of children who have been killed and hurt is immeasurable.

The Custos urged citizens and stakeholders to be persistent in creating a society of peace and love.
