Shelly Ann Fraser Pryce named 2023 Laureus Sportswoman of the year

Reigning world 100 meter champion Shelly Ann Fraser Pryce has been named 2023 Laureus Sportswoman of the year.

The honour comes after a stellar 2022 season in which she won her fifth world title in a championship record 10.67 seconds, as well as her 5th Diamond league crown while also going sub 10.70 seconds a record 7 times.

The 35 year old was on hand at the Laureus awards ceremony in Paris where she gave this acceptance speech.

In winning the award Fraser-Pryce becomes the second Jamaican woman to do so after double sprint Olympic champion Elaine Thompson-Herah won the award in 2021. 

The men’s award meanwhile was won for a second time by Lionel Messi who led his native Argentina to its first Fifa Men’s World Cup title since 1986 and third overall. 

Argentina in the meantime was named Laureus team of the year ,rising teenage Spanish tennis sensation Carlos Alcaraz won the world breakthrough of the year award ……………while Denmark and Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen was named Laureus world comeback of the year award winner.
