Not even the decision by the Jamaica Customs Agency to clamp down on revellers and promoters travelling to Jamaica with feathered Carnival costumes could put a damper on the extravagant costumes, people, and vibes at the 2023 Carnival parade on Sunday.
International celebs and some Dancehall entertainers were among the revellers who took to the streets of Kingston to celebrate in their Carnival costumes.
Jamaican British actor Michael Ward, Chance the rapper, singer Omarion along with his brother, social media influencer and model Winnie Harlow, and Dancehall entertainers Aidonia, D’Angel, Denyque, Laalee, and Pamputae were some of the celebs among the participants in the road march in Kingston.
Meanwhile, some revellers are complaining via social media that their costumes were not forthcoming despite making a payment, and others lament that there was a shortage of feathers.
Leading up to Carnival, the Jamaica Customs Agency issued a warning to all air passengers travelling with feathers into Jamaica, for the hosting of events, particularly Carnival, stating that they must obtain and provide an import permit from the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries to Jamaica Customs.
According to the Jamaica Customs Agency, failure to provide the necessary documentation upon arrival at the airport will result in the detention of the feathers or costumes made of feathers.
Historically, Carnival is an act of celebration for freedom throughout the entire Caribbean and the Caribbean diaspora across the world where people celebrate their culture and remember all the pain that their ancestors endured.
