Minister of Education Fayval Williams is to convene a special meeting with the president of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association, JTA to address issues of concern arising from the recent compensation review.
The announcement comes on the heels of Lasonja Harrison’s call for the government not to turn a deaf ear, to the compensation review issues and anomalies affecting the nation’s teachers.
Speaking at the annual church service to kick off education week, yesterday, Mrs. Harrison said the issues must be fixed if the government is at all concerned, about the state of the country’s education sector.
In a release today, Mrs. Williams said coming out of the planned meeting with the JTA President she will spearhead the setting up of a special team dedicated to answering questions regarding information on the pay advice of teachers and related queries.
She said the continuation of partnership building is critical to the strengthening of Jamaica’s education system and as such she will continue to facilitate the engagement of all stakeholders who are critical to the realization of that and related objectives.
