Ocho Rios Ministers Fraternal monitoring situation at Belmont Cove (Little Dunns River)

The Ocho Rios Ministers Fraternal is closely monitoring the situation at the Belmont river property, commonly called Little Dunn’s River, in St. Ann.

The attraction was closed recently, after a man was killed.

The Urban Development Corporation (UDC) has stated that the closure is indefinite and that it will be guided by the advice of the police.

Chairman of the Fraternal Bishop Hudston Taylor pointed out that some years ago when the UDC planned to redevelop the property, there was concern that it would mean, citizens not having access to a free public beach in Ocho Rios.

At the time, the church group and other interested parties staged protests calling for the beach to remain open to the public.

Bishop Taylor said the fraternal maintains its stance, that Belmont should remain a free access attraction.

He said the matter will be discussed further when the fraternal meets, later this month.
