Only 236 of projected 300+ JUTC buses deployed for the start of the new school year today

Transport Minister Daryl Vaz has reported that only 236 Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) buses were deployed for the start of the new school year today (September 4).

While speaking at a Post-Cabinet press briefing last week, the Minister indicated that 315 buses were to be deployed.

This morning, however, Minister Vaz said the new projected rollout was 285 but only 236 buses were available.

He attributed the shortfall to malfunctioning fare-collection machines and various mechanical repairs.

These issues he said will be rectified within the next two days.

Despite the challenges, Mr Vaz lauded the efforts of the transport company.
